Employment Language Test (ELT) is a standardized examination that measures your ability to speak English while working. ELT tests are used by companies to decide if they want to hire you. You can take this exam at any job fair or company that hires employees.

An bilingual test for employment consists of four parts: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. These sections help employers determine how well you understand written and spoken English. If you pass the test, then you get a score and your results are sent to the employer. Your score is determined based on the number of questions you answered correctly. The highest possible score is 100 points.

Employment Language Test Types

There are two types of ELT tests: paper-based and computerized. Paper-based tests are given at schools, community colleges, and workplaces. They are usually administered through a timed oral examination. Computerized tests are taken online. They may include a multiple choice component, where you answer questions about vocabulary and grammar; a matching exercise, where you match words or phrases with their definitions; and/or an essay question, where you write an opinion piece or analyze information.
